NEWS LETTER

Trips Away:

There were some memorable trips this season, the first was our trip to Limerick. We took a coach of our supporters and travelled to the University of Limerick to see our DCU Mercy team play in the final of the National Championships. We all looked great with our new t-shirts, sponsored by DCU Sport. Another exciting game and our players were fantastic. Yes DCU Mercy emerged the Women’s Superleague National Champions for 2007. Mary Fox our American took the M.V.P. title scoring 29 points. This was a long waited and well deserved win and could not have happened without the hard work of the players and their coach and also the support of DCU Sport and not to forget the supporters. It was a great trip home.

Our second trip this season saw us take 31 girls representing our U.14 and U.18 teams to Barcelona to play in the Tomas Sola Cup. There were 45 of us travelling altogether and we had a fantastic time. We were the only teams from Ireland in the tournament. We beat all the teams in our groups and we reached the finals at both age groups, however, height overcame us and we lost our to Germany by 2 points at under 14 and to Finland by 8 points at under 18. A fantastic achievement for the Club, as this was our first ever trip to Europe. Hopefully, this successful trip will see us do some more in the future. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in the trip and to all the parents etc. who supported our fundraising events. We would also like to thank the girls from Loreto, Foxrock who joined us on the trip and made up some of our under 18 squad. A particular thank you goes to Sean Haughey T.D., for his generous donation to the trip.

Acknowledgements:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents, club members from our academy right up to our superleague team, our Committee members and our various sponsors for their support throughout the season and we look forward to meeting with you all for another successful season in 2007-2008.

I would particularly like to thank Mr. Ken Robinson and his staff at DCU Sport for their support throughout the season and for their help and efficiency in the setting up and running of the gym. A thank you to Aidan Brady for looking after all the players injuries, Ellen O’Brien Manageress to the Superleague team, Kevin O’Brien for looking after the fitness programmes, Tony Hatton our Children’s Officer, Gerry Larkin who helped at the door at our Superleague games and printed the game programmes and anyone else who was involved in any capacity with the Club.

Our cheerleading squad, who were the half time entertainment at the superleague games. These girls put on a wonderful performance every time. I would like to thank the girls and their choreographer Trish Hatton for all the work and energy put into the practice and performances. Well done.

Our success goes to Coaches of the various teams, without who there would be no Club, each of the Coaches give of their time voluntarily, attending coaching courses etc., so a big thank you to Mark Ingle, Bobby Temple, Lindsay Peat, Vivienne Shaw, Sean Ingle, Jody O’Neill, Mary Fox, Annette Ingle, Saleh Abdulla, Ann-Marie Healy and Suzanne Maguire who all gave of their time to the various teams and at the Academy.
